AquaFarm is professional software designed for people with a working knowledge of aquaculture or aquatic science and engineering. Most questions are answered by the resources below.
AquaFarm is built for professionals and researchers with an existing background in aquaculture science, aquatic biology, or aquaculture or aquatic systems engineering. It is not general-purpose software, and it is not designed to teach the underlying science from scratch. Users who attempt to operate AquaFarm without a working foundation in aquaculture or aquatics principles will find the software difficult to apply productively, regardless of how many questions they ask us.
If you are new to aquaculture or aquatics and exploring whether the field is for you, we suggest beginning with academic coursework or the published literature before investing in AquaFarm. If you are a working professional, researcher, or advanced student in the field — you are the intended user, and the resources below should get you where you need to go.
AquaFarm includes a comprehensive Help system accessible directly within the software. The Help system covers every module, every input field, and every output — with explanations of what each parameter means, how it is calculated, and what range of values is appropriate for different species and system types.
This is your first resource for any question about software operation. Before contacting us, please consult the built-in Help for the specific module or screen you are working with.
The AquaFarm User Manual is installed with the software, on the trial as well as on every paid license — a 900-page comprehensive reference covering every aspect of the software and the science behind it. The Manual documents all quantitative models, species parameters, system-type configurations, and output interpretation guidance.

AquaFarm is a Windows desktop application. Mac users, see Can I run AquaFarm on a Mac? below.
Yes. An Individual license key activates AquaFarm on up to three computers, such as an office desktop, a laptop, and a home machine. Group and institutional licenses use a single key with as many activations as you purchase. If all your activations are in use and you replace a computer, release the old one first (see the next question). For more than three computers, contact us about group or institutional licensing before purchasing.
First release the old computer's activation so your license can be used again. On the old computer, while connected to the internet, open AquaFarm, choose About, then Re-activate, and choose Deactivate in the license window. Then uninstall AquaFarm from the old computer, install it on the new one, and activate it with the license key from your purchase email.
Copy your Documents\AquaFarm\Projects folder to the new computer as well.
If the old computer no longer works or can't connect to the internet, contact us and we will release the activation for you.
AquaFarm is a Windows program. On a Mac, run it inside a Windows virtual machine. We have tested AquaFarm with Parallels Desktop on an Apple silicon Mac. We don't test every Mac setup, so please run the 30-day free trial on your own Mac before you buy. The virtual machine counts as its own computer for licensing, so you activate AquaFarm inside it.
Visit the Purchase page, select the appropriate license tier, and complete payment. Your license key will be delivered by email, and everything you already have stays where it is. If you have questions about which tier applies to your use case, contact us before purchasing.
Check your spam or junk folder first. If it is not there within one business day of purchase, contact us with your purchase confirmation information and we will resolve it promptly.
No. License holders can reach us for software support — installing, activating, and operating AquaFarm — through the Contact page. We do not offer project-specific consulting, design review, or advice on aquaculture or aquatics methodology.
The built-in Help system and User Manual are the appropriate resources for species- and system-specific questions. We are not able to provide individual coaching on aquaculture or aquatics methodology through email support.
Important: Running the AquaFarm installer again on a computer that already has AquaFarm replaces the example Projects and the Project list. Changes you made to example Projects are lost unless you saved them under a new name. Your own Projects stay in the folder, but you will need to import them again.
Before reinstalling, copy your Documents\AquaFarm\Projects folder to another location.
